ASICS ORPHE RUN app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: ASICS Corporation
First release : 15 Nov 2020
App size: 87.38 Mb
This app is a mobile application for runners.
It measures data such as pace, pitch, and stride during running by connecting to ASICSs smart shoes. This data is used to visualize the characteristics of the users foot movement while running and the points that need to be improved, and then the app provides personalized advice and recommended training menus for each person based on those characteristics.
Key features of the app
(1)Data analysis and evaluation provided by ASICS Institute of Sports Science(ISS)
By combining data measured from the sensors installed in the shoes with the data and knowledge about running accumulated by ISS over many years, we evaluate running movement from five unique perspectives.
■Five evaluation items.
・Kicking strength: How strong is the force pushing out the road surface.
・Kicking Efficiency: How efficiently the kick force is used for propulsion.
・Braking Efficiency: How small the brakes are on the landing.
・Landing load reduction: The degree to which the impact from the road surface is reduced upon landing.
・Pronation load reduction: The degree to which the load on the joints due to pronation is reduced.
(2) Real-time audio feedback
During a run, the app analyzes data for each distance and time set arbitrarily by the runner, and gives audio advice on exactly where improvements need to be made right now based on that data. For example, for a runner with a low kicking strength, the app will say, "Longer stride length!" The system provides real-time audio advice based on the characteristics of the runner. This allows the runner to understand how to modify his or her movements as they run.
(3) Provide Advice and Training Menu after running
After the run, the overall data is analyzed and a score is calculated for five evaluation items. The results can be viewed on a radar chart for each of the right and left feet, so runners can visually understand the differences in items between the left and right feet. And, based on the results, a personalized advice and recommended strength training menus based on the characteristics of each runner are provided.
